The Education Vault/Personal Training Will Never Die

No More Vacations...

My clients need me too much.

If you don't know- I'm an In Person personal trainer.

I see my clients IRL at the gym I work at. Dynamics Fitness.

Now you might think...

"Personal training?! Didn't Covid kill personal training? There are so many apps and companies that could replace you"
Or
"Why pay for personal training there's so much free stuff out there?"

I thought that before too.

When Peloton exploded into popularity- I was scared.

Now I realize personal training will never die.

You see, my wife and I like to travel.

She's a travel planner and knows all the tips and tricks on getting really good deals on flights and stuff.

We've gone to some pretty awesome places and typically when we go we stay for a while- I don't want to do all that travel for a just a couple days of fun!!

BUT!

Every-time we travel I always feel bad.

My clients come to see me In Person.

If I'm not there- they can't see me.
If they can't see me- they don't workout.

Notice how I said "Don't workout" not "Can't workout".

Cause they totally could workout.

- Some of my clients have memberships to other gyms.
- I provide workout routines to my clients who want them.
- I even try to set up some clients with my coworkers so they can see someone else in person.

But you know what I hear whenever I get back from a trip?

"Ryan welcome back! You can never be gone that long again."

Most of my clients don't workout if they don't come to see me.

And I am not judging them for it!
This is why I feel bad whenever I travel because I know if I'm not there- They're probably missing workouts.

I am their accountability.

I wish it was my personality that keeps people coming back- But that simply isn't the case.
It's the accountability they get from my presence.

Accountability is why personal training will never die.

It is very powerful.

And is oftentimes the difference between getting results or not.

Without me a lot of my clients aren't getting results. But it's not me. It's the accountability I provide. Eventually my clients would probably find another source of accountability.

Because without it- the stuff they need to do to get results might not get done.

Which brings me to...

Accountability - How to Get Some!

The most obvious answer is to hire someone.
- Personal Trainer
- Health Coach
- Etc.

But there are other ways too.

- A friend with a similar goal: You can hold each other accountable, working out together or checking in with each other to make sure you're each getting it done!
(Family members work too- "Mom I NEED to workout more. Can you check in with me to make sure I do it?")

- Consequences: You can hold yourself accountable by creating a consequence for yourself that happens if you don't get the job done.
EX: The days I don't workout I can't play X-box.
The days I don't hit my protein I have to pay my friend 5 bucks.

You can also flip this around and use rewards for accountability!
EX: I hit my protein 10 days in a row- Now I can buy myself a new book!

- Competition: The competitive spirit is also a great source of accountability if you can get competitive with yourself.
Streaks are a great way to do this!

My boss has logged into MyFitnessPal like over 500 days in a row- do you know how long it would take him to get that high again if he lost his streak??
Over 500 days!!
(This is how Jerry Seinfeld became one of the most successful comedians of all time- He didn't want to break the streak.)
