There are moments throughout the year where motivation picks up.
When this happens we typically set a goal and go hard for 1-6 weeks. In that time we either...
- Succeed and achieve our goal or are continuously doing a great job working on it.
Or
- Fail and leave our goal to the next burst of motivation (We are focused on when this happens).
BUT!
When we "fail" it doesn't mean we failed.
Maybe life got in the way and we forgot / lost interest.
This has happened to me. (It's probably happened to every adult human)
Whatever the reason we didn't achieve our goal is- We most likely didn't go about achieving it the right way.
So let's fix that!
Define The Goal:
What do you actually want to achieve?
Be specific.
For example- Do you want to "workout more"?
If so, great! But that doesn't really help us.
What does "workout more" look like?
- Workout 2-4 times per week
Setting a more specific goal allows to actually see what success would look like.
Plus it helps us with Step 2!
Describe HOW To Achieve The Goal:
We know what success looks like- but how do we make that happen?
If the goal is to workout 2-4 times per week- How do we achieve that?
We could...
- Schedule the time in our calendar
- Find / Create a plan to have at the gym so we're extra efficient
- Make an emergency at home workout routine incase we can't make it to the gym
Ask yourself, "What does success of the goal look like?"
Eliminate Obstacles:
As time goes on and motivation fades- obstacles will appear and or feel bigger.
For example:
At first waking up early and going to the gym might have felt exciting but as time goes on mustering the energy to wake up and get to the gym gets more and more challenging.
We need to find ways around or through these obstacles when they appear.
(There is almost always a way- IF we want to find it)
Don't Forget:
The last step is to simply not forget about our goal.
This is probably quite obvious but I want to state it because it has happened to me 😅
If it's important enough it's easier to remember but I still recommend writing it down somewhere you'll see it often.
Working the plan for success into a routine will also help with remembering because you will be working on the goal every time you perform said routine!
EX: Walking everyday after lunch
Something else that is really helpful when it comes to goal success is figuring out your Reason Why.
Why do you want to achieve your goal?
To feel / look better.
Why do you want to feel / look better?
So I have more confidence.
Why do you want to have more confidence?
So I can go through life feeling like the person I know I'm meant to be!
This is just an example.
But if you ask "why" enough times you will wind up finding a feeling that you really want.
And if you can find it, and remind yourself that achieving your goal will get you that feeling, your motivation will stick around much longer!

Second Pro Tip:
Working on your goals with a friend or a coach also helps with accountability and motivation 😁
And that's it for this one- I hope this was useful!
